Chapter 23 of the Book of Proverbs urges us to "be wise and guide our hearts in the way"; to "be in the Fear of the Lord all the day long". (verses 19 & 17) Verse 12 urges us to "Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge." Why? because verse 7 tells us "as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..."
We want to be in The Fear of the Lord and all that we've seen it to be for it is life, and health, and peace, and wisdom, and strength, and just about everything else positive that you can list. Verse 4 says don't labour just to be rich: cease from your own wisdom. "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding." (verse 23)
Here's an easy thing to examine. Look around your house, your room, your things and take a little inventory of what you have bought that applys to that verse. (23) Your "labor" is something you do to be able to buy things besides the necessities. Is some of it going to buying the truth, wisdom, instruction, the building of your faith? Part of being in the "fear of the Lord all the day long" is what we read and listen to. How's your book collection, tape collection, CD collection, video and DVD collection? Can you imagine the amount of money that is spent each year on "heart conditions" if you factor in all the facilities, doctors and nurses, equipment, and insurance?
God has a better heart plan. Invest yourself in it!
